Marketing Attribution Tools for DTC Brands: How to Choose the Right One
The attribution tool landscape has changed significantly. Here’s an updated guide to the major platforms — and the framework for choosing the one that actually fits your measurement problem.

The conversation about marketing attribution has moved. The early post-iOS 14 scramble to rebuild tracking is over. Most sophisticated DTC teams have accepted a harder truth: there is no single attribution system that tells you the full story, and the brands still searching for one are wasting time that would be better spent building a smarter measurement framework.
Meanwhile, the tool landscape has changed considerably. New platforms have launched, existing ones have expanded well beyond their original scope, and at least one major player changed hands entirely. The three-tool comparison that circulated in 2023 no longer reflects the choices brands are actually making.
That reframe matters for how you evaluate attribution tools. The right question isn’t “which tool is most accurate?” Attribution accuracy is partially a function of channel mix, business model, purchase cycle, and data infrastructure — no vendor’s model is universally more accurate. The right question is: what specific measurement problem am I trying to solve, and which tool is best positioned to help me solve it?
Here’s a current view of the major platforms, what each actually does, and how to think about fit.
What Attribution Tools Can and Can’t Do
Before evaluating any tool, it helps to be clear about the boundaries. Multi-touch attribution tools are useful for getting a more complete view of conversion paths across digital channels, understanding how channels interact in sequence, and identifying which campaigns and creatives contribute to revenue beyond last-click.
They’re limited at proving incrementality — whether a channel actually caused a sale or just witnessed one — and at giving you a number defensible enough to present to a CFO as the definitive contribution of any given channel. That’s not a flaw in any specific product. It’s a structural limitation of model-based attribution.
The tools below fall into three categories: multi-touch attribution platforms that model conversion paths from observed data, incrementality platforms that run controlled experiments to establish causation, and econometric platforms that take a media mix modeling approach. Each is solving a different version of the measurement problem — and many brands need more than one. Understanding how they fit together is part of building a sound full-funnel measurement strategy.
Multi-Touch Attribution Platforms
Northbeam
Northbeam uses a pixel, direct API connections, and machine learning to build multi-touch attribution models across paid channels. It’s built primarily for paid media practitioners — media buyers and strategists who need campaign and creative-level attribution data to make daily optimization decisions.
The platform has evolved significantly from its early days. In late 2025, Northbeam launched a Clicks + Deterministic Views model developed in direct partnership with Meta, TikTok, Snapchat, Pinterest, MNTN, and others — tying verified first-party transaction data to both clicks and ad views processed through a clean room. This directly addresses a historical gap in pixel-based attribution: the inability to credit awareness and video channels that drive purchases without a click. Brands that previously saw YouTube or CTV show low attributed ROAS despite obvious demand impact now have a more complete picture from within Northbeam’s interface.
Where Northbeam still shines is granularity and speed. Channel, campaign, ad set, and creative-level attribution refreshes regularly, which makes it genuinely useful for in-platform optimization decisions. The interface is built around media buying workflows rather than analytics exploration, which keeps it accessible for practitioners who don’t want to become data scientists to use their attribution reports.
Best fit: DTC brands with meaningful paid social and search spend who need fast, granular attribution for day-to-day campaign optimization across primarily digital channels.
Triple Whale
Triple Whale has expanded well beyond its origins as a Shopify analytics dashboard. The platform now describes itself as an “agent-powered intelligence platform” used by more than 45,000 ecommerce and retail brands, with AI agents, media mix modeling, CTV attribution, and natural language querying built alongside its core attribution and creative analytics products.
The Moby AI layer has become central to the product — it’s embedded throughout the platform rather than sitting as a standalone feature, allowing teams to ask natural language questions of their data and get analysis back in minutes. The creative analytics features, which connect ad spend directly to creative performance, remain strong for teams running high testing velocity. Triple Whale has also added BigCommerce integration, which expands its reach beyond Shopify-only brands.
The limitation is statistical depth. Triple Whale is optimized for accessibility and breadth rather than attribution rigor. For complex multi-channel programs, particularly those involving CTV, programmatic, or significant offline spend, its models are less sophisticated than platforms built specifically for that measurement challenge. The platform is best understood as a unified intelligence layer for ecommerce brands, not a pure measurement solution.
Best fit: Ecommerce brands — particularly Shopify-native — running primarily Meta and Google who want a unified view of store performance, ad performance, and creative results in one interface, with AI-assisted analysis built in.
Rockerbox
Rockerbox’s differentiation has always been its coverage of hard-to-measure channels — direct mail, podcasts, linear TV, OTT, and other offline or non-click-based channels. It builds attribution models using a combination of pixel data, direct platform integrations, and vendor partnerships that let it pull data from channels most attribution tools can’t see.
One significant development: DoubleVerify acquired Rockerbox in March 2025 for $85M. Rockerbox continues to operate as a product, but it is no longer an independent company — it’s now part of DoubleVerify’s broader brand safety and measurement suite. For brands evaluating Rockerbox, that context matters: the roadmap, pricing, and strategic direction are now shaped by a public company with a broader product mandate, not an independent measurement startup optimizing purely for advertiser measurement needs.
The core product strengths remain: broader channel coverage than purely digital attribution platforms, and stronger model transparency than most — data-fluent teams can inspect and adjust the underlying attribution logic. The tradeoff is the same as it’s always been: more onboarding investment, more data sophistication required, and a steeper learning curve than more accessible platforms.
Best fit: Mid-market brands with sophisticated marketing teams running a mix of digital and offline channels (podcasts, direct mail, OTT) who need attribution coverage beyond what digital-only platforms provide — and who are comfortable evaluating the implications of the DoubleVerify acquisition for their vendor relationship.
WorkMagic
WorkMagic is worth understanding clearly, because it’s positioned differently than it might first appear. It’s not primarily a pixel-based MTA tool. It’s an incrementality-first platform that combines geo-based incrementality testing, multi-touch attribution, and media mix modeling in one package — with the key architectural choice being that the attribution model is calibrated by the incrementality test results rather than purely from observed click data.
This approach means WorkMagic’s attribution outputs are grounded in causal evidence rather than correlation alone — a meaningful advantage over standard MTA platforms. It also includes net profit analysis, which matters for DTC brands where the gap between revenue attribution and actual profit (after COGS, shipping, and returns) can significantly distort budget decisions. Attributing $500K in revenue to Meta is one thing; knowing that revenue generated $80K in net profit changes the allocation conversation entirely.
The limitation is scale and maturity. WorkMagic is designed for smaller DTC brands where experiment stakes are lower. The automated market selection and experiment design simplifies setup but reduces statistical control — brands making large budget decisions across complex multi-channel setups will likely find the statistical guardrails insufficient. It’s better understood as a DTC starter kit for incrementality-informed measurement than as an enterprise measurement platform.
Best fit: Shopify DTC brands earlier in their measurement journey who want incrementality-calibrated attribution at accessible pricing, without needing enterprise statistical rigor.
Incrementality and Experiment-First Platforms
These platforms start from a different premise: rather than modeling attribution from observed data, they design controlled experiments to establish whether a channel actually caused incremental sales. This is a fundamentally more rigorous approach to the question of causation, and it produces outputs that are harder to dispute and easier to defend to finance teams.
Haus
Haus is built around geo-based incrementality testing. The platform automates the design and analysis of holdout experiments — running a channel in a set of markets, holding it back in matched markets, and measuring the revenue difference. The core output is an incrementality estimate: how much additional revenue did this channel generate, net of what would have happened without it?
Haus’s own 2025 industry survey found that only 39% of marketers identified multi-touch attribution as their most-trusted measurement solution — a signal of how much confidence has shifted toward causal methods. The platform’s outputs reflect this: a well-designed Haus geo holdout produces a causal estimate, not a modeled inference, which is the kind of result you can put in front of a CFO as actual evidence.
The platform covers testing across Meta, Google, YouTube, TikTok, CTV, and select retail media platforms — and measures impact across DTC, Amazon, and offline retail, not just direct site revenue. Haus has also recently launched a Causal MMM product that builds on its experiment results, moving the platform beyond single-method testing toward a more complete measurement suite.
The key constraint is scale requirements. Geo testing needs sufficient spend, geographic distribution, and volume to produce statistically meaningful results. Each test takes 3 to 8 weeks to run, meaning building a comprehensive incrementality picture across all channels is a multi-quarter program, not a quick answer.
Best fit: Mid-market to scaling brands with meaningful spend on the channel being tested, geographic distribution, and finance teams that want causal evidence rather than modeled attribution.
Measured
Measured combines geo holdout testing with a proprietary Causal Media Mix Model (Causal MMM) — a model calibrated by the incrementality tests it runs rather than trained purely on historical spend and revenue data. This directly addresses one of traditional MMM’s core weaknesses: the model is validated against actual experiments, not just correlated patterns.
In late 2025, Measured upgraded its Measured Incrementality Model with on-demand model refresh — allowing marketers to re-run their model instantly when inputs change — and user-selectable inputs, enabling scenario planning against different variable configurations in real time. This closes a practical gap that has historically made MMM outputs feel stale by the time they reach budget decisions.
Measured is positioned squarely at enterprise and larger mid-market brands. The platform’s rigor and coverage are strong, but it’s priced and scoped accordingly — extracting full value requires a genuine ongoing commitment to the testing program and the organizational readiness to act on what the tests reveal.
Best fit: Brands with $3M+ in annual media spend, complex channel mixes, and a need for cross-channel measurement that withstands rigorous financial scrutiny.
Econometric and MMM Platforms
Recast
Recast is a Bayesian media mix modeling platform built specifically for DTC brands. Unlike traditional MMM vendors that require enterprise data infrastructure and analyst teams to operate, Recast is designed to be more accessible — lower data requirements, faster model deployment, and outputs oriented toward actionable budget allocation.
The Bayesian approach is genuinely meaningful. Rather than producing a single point estimate of channel contribution — “Meta drove 34% of revenue” — Recast produces a probability distribution with uncertainty ranges around the estimate. This tells you not just what the model thinks, but how confident the model is. For teams making significant budget allocation decisions, the difference between a tight confidence interval and a wide one matters considerably. Most MMM tools hide this uncertainty behind a clean dashboard number.
In September 2025, Recast also launched GeoLift — a separate geo lift testing product that allows brands to run incrementality experiments and feed those results back into the MMM to calibrate channel contribution estimates against causal evidence. This brings Recast closer to the calibrated-MMM approach that Measured pioneered at the enterprise level.
Like all MMM approaches, Recast needs 18 to 24 months of historical data and meaningful spend variation across channels to produce reliable outputs. It works best when used alongside incrementality tests rather than as a standalone system.
Best fit: Brands spending $2M+ annually in paid media who want an MMM approach that’s more accessible than enterprise vendors and who value model transparency — including the uncertainty — over dashboard simplicity.
How to Choose: A Framework
The tool selection decision should follow the measurement problem, not the other way around. Here’s how to sequence the thinking:
- What decisions are you trying to make? Day-to-day campaign optimization requires fast, granular, channel-level data — that’s Northbeam or Triple Whale. Quarterly budget allocation across channels requires either incrementality evidence or MMM outputs — that’s Haus, Measured, or Recast. Full-funnel measurement including significant offline channels requires broader coverage — that’s Rockerbox or Measured.
- What’s your spend level? Under $1M annually: Triple Whale or Northbeam for operational attribution; WorkMagic if you want incrementality-informed measurement at accessible pricing. $1M to $3M: Northbeam or Rockerbox for channel attribution; Haus for incrementality testing on your top channels. $3M+: Add Measured or Recast for cross-channel measurement that goes beyond multi-touch attribution.
- How complex is your channel mix? Primarily Meta and Google: any of the major MTA platforms work. Adding CTV, programmatic, or direct mail: Rockerbox or Measured have better coverage. Significant offline spend (TV, radio, OOH): you need an MMM layer — Recast or Measured.
- Who is consuming the outputs? Media buyers optimizing daily: Northbeam or Triple Whale. Marketing leadership making quarterly budget decisions: any of the above with a clear data narrative. CFO or finance team requiring causal evidence: incrementality testing via Haus or Measured is the only approach that produces results defensible enough to call causal.

The single most common mistake we see in attribution tool selection is buying a tool before building a measurement framework. A tool is an instrument. A framework is a set of decisions about what you’re measuring, why, at what cadence, and who acts on the outputs.
Without a framework, the best attribution tool in the world produces interesting data that doesn’t change how you operate. With a framework, a relatively simple measurement stack — MER as the portfolio-level metric, branded search as an awareness indicator, one quarterly incrementality test, and a multi-touch platform for daily optimization — gives you more decision-making capability than a sophisticated tool being used without a clear purpose.
The question before “which tool?” is always “what decisions do I need to make, and what evidence do I need to make them confidently?” Answer that first. Then the tool selection becomes much simpler.
